Jason Collet’s Basement Review last night for #MMIWG at Toronto’s Opera House

Powerful and moving Basement Review last night – Really impacted by Leanne Simpson’s and Naomi Klein’s honourings, with welcome surprises like Tragically Hip’s Gordon Downie playing two brand new, never before performed songs, as well as a reading by Michael Ondaatje.

Thank you to Audrey, Damian, Jason, Leanne, Naomi, ATCR, Joseph, Cris, Lee, Colum, et al.

The Vag Halen at the end was too big a disconnect (especially since their mics were cranked so loud it was distorting) after such moving words, so although I wanted to stay to hear the closing of the gathering, I needed to exit to be in silence and reflection.

So I went to my sanctuary, nature, and laid down tobacco (that I grew for a year) near a body of water, to honour the lives of the 1,182 MMIWG (missing murdered indigenous women & girls). ❤

Lastly, I think $3.50 for water or a pop for a designated driver at a club is crazy.
