skeletons of summer spells #poem

dried tall grasses
skeletons of summer spells
rattle; prattle of the deep
cold
inciting torpor
delayed stupor
lone
I eavesdrop
in this arctic wasteland
gleaning organic glimpses
cycles of life
death
rebirth
whispers of springtime
almost imperceptible
the ground stirs below me
unison of roots
faintly rousing
reaching tentatively
upwards
blocked
hard frozen ground
stinging tender shoots
coil backwards
inwards
forgiving ice
patient
knowing
it’s only a matter of time
teaching perseverance

dry grass
